FC Bayern have donated €150,000 to help people who have been particularly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. At the suggestion of the Bavarian state government, the money will benefit the charity organisation 'brotZeit eV'. Every fifth child in Germany goes to school hungry and the coronavirus pandemic has further aggravated the situation in many families. This initiative works to combat that by ensuring that children in need do not have to start the school day with rumbling stomachs.

CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: "We are very happy that we are able to hand over this donation to 'brotZeit' together with Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder. During this pandemic, it is the children who have had to suffer most due to contact restrictions and intervention in their usual normality. With this money, we want to support them at school so that they can always start the morning in optimistic mood and look to the future."
Söder: “The ‘brotZeit’ organisation is a worthy recipient"
Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder: "A healthy breakfast is an important start to the day for our children. Uschi Glas and her 'brotZeit' organisation have been working for years to ensure that children and teenagers have this opportunity. Many thanks to FC Bayern for today's generous donation. The 'brotZeit' organisation, supported by the Free State of Bavaria for many years, is a worthy recipient. I have distributed breakfasts at school on behalf of 'brotZeit' and therefore know from my experience the great things this organisation has achieved. And what is really important to me, also during the current closure of schools, is that the children in emergency care are being provided with breakfast."
4,200 children are provided for under strict hygiene regulations
Uschi Glas, Chair of ‘brotZeit eV’: "Before the coronavirus pandemic, we provided 11,000 children in Germany with a nutritious school breakfast every day and now we are also here for hungry schoolchildren. Currently, we can provide for 4,200 children at 99 schools every day under strict hygiene regulations – that's great. In all 15 areas covered by 'brotZeit', the project management are working closely with the project schools locally and, as soon as the pandemic regulations permit, there will again be the same call for all brotZeit children every day: Children, breakfast!"
