Diaries out, note the dates! The German Football League (DFL) published the fixture list for the 2021/22 Bundesliga season on Friday and thereby set the timetable for an historic mission: FC Bayern could become the first team in the top European leagues to be champions for a tenth time in succession. The title defence begins on Friday, 13 August, with the opening match at Borussia Mönchengladbach (20:30 CEST). The first home game at the Allianz Arena sees the record champions entertain FC Köln the following week (20-22 August 2021).
Swift reunion for Nagelsmann with former club
New FCB coach Julian Nagelsmann has a reunion with his former club after the first international break on Matchday 4 (11/12 September) with an away game at RB Leipzig. In the second half of the campaign, FCB host last season's runners-up in Munich on the weekend of 4 to 6 April 2022. Bayern fans can look forward to the clash with Bundesliga returnees VfL Bochum on Matchday 5 (17-19 September) plus the renewal of the Bavarian-Franconian derby against newly promoted SpVgg Greuther Fürth a week later (24-26 September). Der Klassiker at DFB Cup winners Borussia Dortmund is on Matchday 14 (3-5 December), with the return fixture in Munich on the weekend of 22 to 24 April 2022.
Season finale in Wolfsburg
The home game against VfL Wolfsburg (17-19 December 2021) is followed by a three-week winter break in the Bundesliga. That ends for FCB with a home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach (7-9 January 2022). The final home game against VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 33 (6-8 May 2022) is followed by the season finale on Saturday, 14 May 2022, away to Wolfsburg. All the games on Matchday 34 will kick off as usual on the Saturday at 15:30 CEST.
Final fixture details will be confirmed over the course of the season and are primarily dependent on the matches involving the teams in the Champions and Europa Leagues. The DFL will announce the kick-off times of the opening matches in the next few weeks.
