To mark “Christopher Street Day”, FC Bayern are once again lighting the Allianz Arena in rainbow colours this summer. On Saturday, as in previous years, the German champions will issue a globally visible message for tolerance and against homophobia and discrimination of all kinds. The arena will be lit from 21:00 CEST to midnight.
Herbert Hainer: "FC Bayern would like to send a clear signal"
“FC Bayern would like to send a clear signal that we stand for cosmopolitanism and diversity,” said club president Herbert Hainer. “Discrimination and exclusion must not have a place in sport or in our society.”
This is not the first time FC Bayern have made their views clear. On "Diversity Day" in spring, the Allianz Arena also shone in the colours of diversity, Manuel Neuer wore a corresponding captain's armband, and the corner flags were also multicoloured. Furthermore, the German champions welcomed LGBTQ+ fans to workshops as part of the “Reds against Racism” initiative. Before coronavirus, FC Bayern sent club mascot Berni as a representative for “Christopher Street Day” and signalled solidarity with a joint t-shirt campaign.
