Nagelsmann and Gnabry on the friendly against Napoli

Bayern were beaten 3-0 by Napoli in their final friendly match before the first competitive fixture of the new season in the DFB Cup. It was the first time the majority of players who featured at Euro 2020 got a run-out, playing the first 45 minutes. “The first half was fine. We were the better team and did quite well,“ head coach Julian Nagelsmann said of the first portion of the game. After several substitutions during the break, FCB conceded three goals in the second half. “Of course, we’re a bit frustrated. You always go out looking to win games,“ added Serge Gnabry. Here’s the reaction from Nagelsmann and the German forward.

Julian Nagelsmann: “It doesn’t feel good, of course. The first half was fine. We were the better team and did quite well. But we didn’t create that many chances in the final third. Still, we had two decent ones. In the second half, we essentially scored three own goals. I’m glad that the international players are back and could play 45 minutes – that was important. Three more valuable players are returning on Monday, and then we can all train together for the first time.”

Serge Gnabry: “Of course, we’re a bit frustrated. You always go out looking to win games. It’s now about training certain processes together. We haven’t been able to do that often yet. Then everything will come together. We’ve barely had a week together. It’s obvious things aren’t quite working yet. That’s why we need some time and more games, then we’ll find ourselves again.”
