Meet Julian Nagelsmann! The 33-year-old native of Upper Bavaria has been the new head coach at FC Bayern since 1 July. "I'm now kind of back home. And then to be able to work at one of the biggest clubs in Europe is of course an extraordinary combination that makes me very, very happy," says Nagelsmann. In our Servus portrait, he introduces himself to the record champions' fans.
From football-mad kid to Bayern head coach
He talks about his journey from being a football-mad kid who slept in red Bayern bed sheets "until my mum took them off again at some point because they needed to be washed", to becoming coach at the German record champions. Nagelsmann describes himself as a "young, emotional coach. I think you've always been able to see in the past that I'm quite loud on the touchline. I don't think I'll be able to change that completely at Bayern. I'll certainly adapt to a few things, but I'll still remain emotional."
With his new team, he'll try to play "attacking, flexible and exciting football, also for the fans, who will hopefully soon be allowed back into the stadiums." Defensive stability will also be part of the agenda. The main task, however, is to "continue on this successful path. It's not about turning everything on its head, making everything new, but in the end it's about ideally awakening this quality that's in the team every matchday."
In addition, Nagelsmann also talks about private matters in our Servus portrait: his childhood idols, his favourite TV series and what the paparazzi should be looking out for. Fiind out all this and more in the video. It's definitely worth a look!
