FC Bayern is mourning Dr. Gerhard Riedl, who has died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 62. Riedl has been chairman of the German record champions’ honorary committee since 2014, and is a figure who has lent help and advice to the club for many years. He leaves behind a wife and three children.
President Herbert Hainer: “FC Bayern is saddened by the death of Dr. Gerhard Riedl, a deeply loyal, always polite, humble and reliable companion to our club. Our thoughts are with his wife and family. We will always remember him.”
Vice-president Professor Dr. Dieter Mayer: “This news was completely unexpected. Words can’t describe the shock and pain. Dr. Gerhard Riedl led and shaped the honorary committee in an impressive way with his excellent legal knowledge, his incredibly warm manner and his great love for FC Bayern. He was a wonderful friend, who leaves behind an irreplaceable void.”
Dr. Gerhard Riedl was, among other thing, a familiar figure to the FC Bayern members because, alongside his role on the honorary committee, the lawyer regularly chaired ballots at the annual general meetings. He was also a member of the statutes committee, while he regularly acted for FC Bayern AG as a lawyer. Only recently he joined the Montagskicker, a veterans' group who play football at Säbener Straße on a Monday.
