Nagelsmann: Winning was the most important thing

Thanks to an extremely strong performance, FC Bayern celebrated a 4-1 away victory in the Bundesliga match at RB Leipzig on Saturday evening. "In the end we're the deserved winners but not as high as by a 4-1 margin," coach Julian Nagelsmann declared. Jamal Musiala, scorer of the second Bayern goal said, "It was quite fun. We played well." Here's the reaction.

Reaction from the Bayern camp:

Julian Nagelsmann: "In the end, we're the deserved winners but not by as high a margin as 4-1. We know what quality RB have. In the first half we had a good structure but lost the ball too much. Overall, it was a scrappy game. After the break we had our best phase. We won 4-1, that's the most important thing. It's always a balancing act because we didn't have much training time. How much do you rely on what you already know and how much new stuff do you bring in? It's a process we want to work on. Our basic structure and our positioning was good today. It was another step in the right direction. Serge has problems in his back, back pain, so we had to take him off. I can't give a prognosis for Tuesday yet. The doctor has already treated him extensively, we'll have to see in the next few days. Lewy has some problems in his groin. His substitution was precautionary."

Thomas Müller: "It feels great for us to win 4-1 here. After the internationals, you don't really know where you stand. Musiala was the magician in the game. The special thing is that on top of all his talent, he also has a great personality. He's hard-working and is confident, but very down to earth. He takes the ball and knows exactly what to do. He is not a nice extra, he's a very important player for us."

Jamal Musiala: "It was a lot of fun. We played well. We had a tough time for ten to 15 minutes, but we persevered. We train for situations like the situation in which I scored a goal. You doesn't think much in that situation."

Reaction from the Leipzig camp:

Jesse Marsch (RB Leipzig head coach): "Bayern have a lot of quality. They showed that today, especially in the final third. We didn't play badly and played to our limits. The fans saw that we gave everything. We played bravely, and with a bit of luck the game might have turned out differently. Overall, that's our game: quality and power. Bayern are perhaps too big for us at the moment. We have a young team. I'm not disappointed. We have to learn."

Konrad Laimer (RB Leipzig): "In the end, four goals hurt. We were in the game for long stretches. The two goals after the break were too easily conceded. But we had chances. If we'd made use of them, the game could have gone differently. We knew it would be difficult. You have to perform at your best. We didn't manage that today. Bayern attacked more effectively. In the end, we didn't do enough to be able to take anything home. We have to learn from this and do better."
