As the ball hit the net, snow sprayed in all directions. Orange ball, red lines and a snowy white pitch - Bayern fans were confronted with a somewhat unusual image in the driving snow in the Ukrainian capital during the first half. One man who once again kept a cool head in every situation despite the inhospitable footballing conditions in FC Bayern's 2-1 away win at Dynamo was Robert Lewandowski. The Bundesliga's top scorer was particularly on fire in the 14th minute, when he scored a goal of the month contender: the Pole, who has legitimate hopes of winning the Ballon d'Or next Monday, scored with a spectacular bicycle kick. "Lewy's goal is very much worth seeing," said coach Julian Nagelsmann, with a smile. In true Lewy fashion, the 33-year-old set several new records at the same time.
Number 9 scoring in 9 UCL games in a row
With this world-class goal, the Pole scored his 25th competitive goal this season - in just 19 games. No other player in Europe's top 5 leagues has scored more than 16 goals this season. Lewy has now scored 14 goals in nine Champions League consecutive games, equalling his own personal record from two seasons (2019/2020). Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Ruud van Nistelrooy have scored in as many consecutive games in the history of Europe's elite club competition. But: Lewandowski is the first player to have done this more than once.
Top of the Champions League list
The winner of the 2020/2021 Golden Boot is also leading the Champions League scoring charts this season with nine goals in five games. And what's more, the Polish national team captain has broken the deadlock in three of the five games this UCL campaign. Lewangoalski, a man for the important goals - and for the spectacular and sublime, as a snow-covered affair at the Kyiv Olympic Stadium proved.
