Thomas Müller: There's nothing better

A very important home win for FC Bayern! In the Bundesliga match between the sides first and third in the table, first place beat third place as Bayern overcame a tough SC Freiburg 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Allianz Arena. The stadium was sold out for the first time in over a year and a half. "Huge congratulations to the team for beating such good opposition. It was an emotional game," board member for sport Hasan Salihamidžić said. "When we come back from the international break, we know FC Bayern will be top of the table - there's nothing better," said Thomas Müller. fcbayern.com has reaction from the game here.

Post-match reaction

Hasan Salihamidžić (board member for sport): "When our fans are there, it's a completely different feeling. We're very happy about that. For the players, of course, it's also a huge motivating factor. We're in very good physical condition. The boys are full of confidence. We have a very good team with a lot of quality. The backroom staff have done a very good job with managing the workload of the players. We want to continue in this vein and try to be as successful in our upcoming games as we have been in our most recent ones."

Julian Nagelsmann (head coach): "In the end, it's a deserved win. We had a lot of chances in the box, but Freiburg defended well, so perhaps we didn't have clear chances like we did in the last few games. In the end, we were a bit unlucky to concede the way we did. Two goals were enough, but today there was more to be had. We went into the last international break having lost to Frankfurt. We wanted to do better today. It was also a win against a side directly competing with us at the top of the table. It was an important win."

Thomas Müller: "We knew it was going to be an important game. We wanted to go into the break with a win and keep the pressure on the sides behind us. I'm happy that the fans were all back again. The place was full, the game was intense. The spectators saw a great and exciting game. When you win, it's always great. We can look forward to a nice weekend now. When we come back from the international break, we know we'll be top of the pile - there's nothing better than that."

Leon Goretzka: "We played a good team, it was a top game. And they came here to win. It was incredibly important that we doubled our lead, because you can always concede a goal. Our aim today was to win, especially with the international break coming up now."

Reaction from the Freiburg camp:

Christian Streich (Sport-Club Freiburg head coach): "The team gave their all, they were brave throughout. It was clear that Bayern would get their chances, with their speed. It's a pity we didn't score a few minutes earlier. We couldn't have done more than we did today."

Lucas Höler (SC Freiburg): "It was an extremely difficult game. We had a good game plan, and it actually worked out. We were in the game right until the final whistle. It wasn't to be today. But Bayern didn't not deserve the win."

Christian Günter (SC Freiburg): "We wanted to keep our streak going, of course, but if it was ever going to be tough to keep it up, it'd have been going away to this place. This is the hardest test. But, we were able to keep up and we can build on that. There's still the return fixture."
