FC Bayern will light up the Allianz Arena in purple again this year as part of the worldwide campaign #PurpleLightUp. On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the stadium will send out a clear message on 3 December from 16:15 to 23:00 CET that inclusion as well as self-determination and equal participation for people with disabilities should be a given in this day and age.
FC Bayern president Herbert Hainer: "Sport stands for meeting each other, being together – that is why it's an important issue for us at FC Bayern to again make a clear statement for the rights and concerns of people with disabilities this year. Nobody can or should feel excluded either in our FC Bayern family or in our society."
Allianz Arena to light up purple on 3 December
At the planning stage of the Allianz Arena, attention was paid to taking account of the needs of people with disabilities. As a completely barrier-free stadium, it is a model of inclusion and participation in football worldwide up to this day. In addition to 227 places for wheelchair users, smart phones with a subtitles service are available on matchdays for people with a hearing disability as well as headphones with commentary for people with visual impairments to enable an unrestricted football experience. Away from matchdays, there are also special disabled tours for wheelchair users and people with restricted mobility.
Inclusion and equality of opportunity are still not available in society. In order to raise the visibility of this state of affairs, buildings and attractions worldwide will again be lit up in violet and purple on 3 December. The intention is to raise awareness of the contribution to society made by people with disabilities and to stand up for their rights and concerns.
