Robert Lewandowski could not be satisfied with the result on Saturday, but he was certainly pleased with his own performance: The Best FIFA Men's Player scored both goals in Bayern's 4-2 defeat in Bochum, taking his tally for the season to 26. Only one other player in Bundesliga history had scored so many times after 22 matchdays - Lewy himself in his 41-goal season last season.
Close to another record
The attacker has scored 16 of his 26 goals away from home this season, a new personal best. In fact, only Jupp Heynckes (1973/74) and Timo Werner (2019/20) have scored more away goals in a single season in the history of the competition: Both scored 17 goals away from home - and Lewandowski is already very close to snatching that record away from the pair.
The 33-year-old loosed off a total of seven attempts on goal against VfL, with his last hitting the crossbar in the 85th minute. Many wondered what might have been for Bayern had Lewandowski's free-kick been inches lower. But the exceptional goal-scorer will not be interested in dwelling on that: he will do everything in his power to score again next time out for the record champions.
