Manuel Neuer: We made a mark and a statement

"That was important," Thomas Müller shouted into the camera after the final whistle at the Allianz Arena. With that, the Bavarian underlined the significance of FC Bayern's 7-1 victory over FC Salzburg in the second leg of the last 16. In an interview after the game Müller reiterated it: "The importance of the game was clear to every single one of us." After deserved passage into the last eight of the Champions League, his colleagues were also very satisfied. Captain Manuel Neuer underlined the importance: "We made a mark and a statement!" fcbayern.com has reaction from both camps below.

Reaction from the Bayern camp:

Julian Nagelsmann: "It was a very good game. In terms of football, we played incredibly well today. We picked the lock a lot with beautiful football and scored goals in all types of ways - from set pieces, after winning the ball and also out of possession. When we have this energy, this greed, it's hard to stop us. Everyone pushed themselves and the others. Today we deserved to win, even by that amount."

Manuel Neuer: "We made a mark and a statement. We had a good start with the penalties and got into the game well. It continued like that. We are very happy with the performance. It felt good in the game. We gave a different account of ourselves and didn't allow so many counter-attacking opportunities. That gives us hope that it will continue like that. We really wanted to win this game after the 1-1 draw in the first leg and you could see that."

Thomas Müller: "It just worked out for us today. We had the luck that we didn't have at all in Salzburg today. Of course there was tension before the game. Every single one of us was aware of the importance of the game. The 1-1 in the first leg wasn't a top result, but it wasn't a disaster either. Sometimes it's easier when you've already played against an opponent. Then you have material to work with, it's almost a bit like the NBA playoffs. We nearly conceded after five minutes, but overall we were better today."

Robert Lewandowski: "Everyone knew that we had to put our foot on the gas from the first minute and show our quality. Especially the first 45 minutes showed that we are extremely dangerous when we play a bit quicker and get the ball into the penalty area. We showed that today. It's the Champions League and that's always special. It's important that our form continues to improve at this important stage of the season."

Reaction from the Salzburg camp:

Matthias Jaissle (FC Salzburg head coach): "Fundamentally, it is a very tough evening for us. The disappointment is huge. We didn't manage to build on the first leg. Our preparation was not ideal, we had to struggle with a few things, but we're not going to complain. There were one or two who didn't get up to 100 per cent today."

Karim Adeyemi (FC Salzburg striker): "The scoreline was too high. You have to remember that we had a good season in the Champions League. If we'd gotten the first goal in the game it might have gone a different way, so I wouldn't say we didn't stand a chance at all."
