We mourn the loss of Dieter Gruschwitz

German sport and FC Bayern mourn the loss of Dieter Gruschwitz. The TV broadcaster announced that the longstanding head of sports at ZDF has passed away at the age of 68 near Bad Tölz. Gruschwitz worked in sports journalism for nearly 40 years with 21 years spent at the public broadcaster Zweite Deutsche Fernsehen with 12 years as head of sports. He shaped reporting over the decades with his in-depth knowledge, enormous passion and lots of creative ideas.

Herbert Hainer, FC Bayern president: "German sports journalism has lost one of its great personalities in Dieter Gruschwitz. Whenever we met I saw him as a role model for everybody, professionally and last but not least also on a personal level as he was an honest and reliable partner with his fair approach. The thoughts of FC Bayern are with his family and freinds."

Oliver Kahn, FC Bayern CEO: "The news of the passing of Dieter Gruschwitz has shaken us all. I was able to share lots of unique moments with him in my time at ZDF. More than just working closely together we shared a friendship. I valued Dieter immensely and I’m extremely grateful to him. We will miss him."

Uli Hoeneß, honorary president: "I have not only lost a longstanding partner in Dieter Gruschwitz but also a true friend. It's impossible to find the right words with such a loss. Dieter always had time for everybody and gave good advice including beyond sport. He was a very special person. We will all miss Dieter very much.”
