FC Bayern honorary captain Franz Beckenbauer has been recognised with the 2022 lifetime achievement award by the German Football Ambassadors' association (Deutscher Fußball Botschafter e.V.) for his life's work. "I would like to express great thanks for this award. It is a great honour for me," said the 76-year-old footballing legend. The non-profit association awards the prize annually for a significant contribution to the positive image of Germany in the world, linked to the support of a charitable institution, in this case the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation. Beckenbauer was presented with the award certificate in April.

In his career, the Kaiser not only became a world and European champion as a player, a World Cup winner as a coach, and the winner of numerous European trophies, but also acted as a figurehead of German football. His commitment went far beyond sport. For over 40 years, he has been helping people in need via the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation, for example.

Dettmar Cramer, Thomas Hitzlsperger, Miroslav Klose, Karl-Heinz Schnellinger, Otto Pfister, the pairing of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka and last year, for the first time, FC Bayern Munich as a club are previous recipients of the German Football Ambassadors' achievement award.
