'Outstanding' Mané makes Bayern hearts beat faster

This article's headline should almost have read "Hat-trick hero Mané makes Bayern hearts beat faster". However, the 30-year-old newbie was twice thwarted by offsides in his side's 5-3 win over RB Leipzig in the DFL Supercup. Nevertheless, the Senegalese star's first competitive game in FC Bayern colours can be described as a dream start, as Sadio Mané scored his first goal for FCB after just 31 minutes (and this one counted!).

Mané beamed throughout the post-match mixed zone interview: "I am really, really happy to have won my first title with Bayern. I said on my first day that being here is a dream come true. I'm very happy to be part of this team." After wonderful combination play with Jamal Musiala, who was also in fine form, and fellow goalscorer Serge Gnabry, Mané fired in a confident left-footed shot to make it 2-0.

Nagelsmann: He has outstanding qualities

"It was a very good performance from him," head coach Julian Nagelsmann said, praising his attacker in the highest terms after the final whistle. "He is a humble and grounded player. He is extremely good for us - in the dressing room too. He has outstanding qualities and is an outstanding guy." The whirlwind, who was recently named African Men's Footballer of the Year, and not for the first time, already demonstrated his strength on Bayern's Audi Summer Tour in a friendly against American side D.C. United. Mané scored his first ever goal for the German record champions via a penalty in Washington DC. Hopefully his goal tonight is the first of many competitive goals in the red Bayern jersey.

Mané has a lot of plans. "There are still things we can improve on. But that's quite normal because we are just at the beginning of the season. Now it's important that we learn our lessons from the game and don't make the same mistakes again. The most important thing today was that we won." Next Friday, 5 August 20:30 CEST, Bayern and Mané want to follow up the Leipzig win with three points away at Frankfurt in the Bundesliga opener. There, the Senegalese striker might just net his third goal in as many Bayern games on his Bundesliga debut.
