With this jersey, FC Bayern have all the trump cards in their hands - or rather, on their back: the German record champions’ players will be sporting a dark grey kit from partner adidas with red stripes and a red club crest in their Champions League matches this season. The design of the jersey is based on the traditional Bavarian card game "Schafkopf" and features the symbols of the card colours of acorn (club), grass (spade), heart, and bells (diamonds) within the contrasting rhombuses. As with the home shirt, the "Mia San Mia" lettering adorns the back of the neck.
Thomas Müller, who is as proficient at playing cards as he is on the football pitch, thinks highly of the kit: "Schafkopf is part of Bayern - and with a jersey like this, the Bayern heart comes up trumps! We’ll have a good hand in every game." President Herbert Hainer also likes the jersey "very much - as a native of Bavaria and a passionate Schafkopfer, I find the idea very charming that our players will convey a Bavarian attitude to life to the football world in this way. It's a special jersey, for our fans in Bavaria and beyond." CEO Oliver Kahn: "Generations of Bayern players, from Sepp Maier, Gerd Müller, Uli Hoeneß and Bulle Roth to Klaus Augenthaler and Manfred Schwabl to Philipp Lahm and Thomas Müller have always played Schafkopf here. It has a wonderful tradition - in our club and also with our fans."
Bayern legends Giovane Élber and Claudio Pizarro also learned Schafkopf during their playing career in Munich. Brazilian Tainara de Souza da Silva, new FC Bayern Women defender and recent Copa América winner, has already signed up for a playing card tactics course with her compatriot Élber: "I'm really looking forward to FC Bayern and want to get to know the culture of the people in Bavaria. If Giovane shows me how to play Schafkopf, I'll be happy to join him." For Élber, it's a matter of honour: "As soon as Tainara has time for a Schafkopf training session, we'll make a real Munich girl out of her."
The jersey is made of 100% recycled polyester. It is available now exclusively in all stores, the FC Bayern Online Store and the adidas Online Shop.
