There was a strong Bayern presence at the 2022 Ballon d’Or ceremony as a new award was presented in homage to a club legend, there was a special prize for Sadio Mane, and excellent finishes by FCB players in the award rankings.
Reaction to the Ballon D’Or
Board member for sport Hasan Salihamidzic was present in Paris and said: “Sadio Mane is an absolutely world-class player and is a unique character. He’s proven himself as one of the most impressive attacking players in the Premier League and Champions League. He’s already a very important part of our team. That’s why I’m delighted for him. Sadio deserves to be recognised as one of the best players in our game. But despite all the success, he’s always remained a humble guy, who looks after others, feels responsible for others and supports them. That’s also the reason why he received an award for his social and charity work. You want to have a player like him and with his qualities in your team. I’m convinced Bayern will have great moments in the future with Sadio, and Sadio with us. We’re also delighted for Jamal Musiala. He also earnt it. Our team is already unimaginable without him, even at his age. That’s an amazing achievement. Being among the best three young players in the world is just reward and also a duty to continue the path he’s taken at Bayern just as sensibly, professionally and with the commitment he has done. That’s his task now, and we’ll all support him in that. We’re very proud of Jamal. And it’s also clear that his development isn’t done yet. There’s still room for improvement, and we’re looking forward to that.”
President Herbert Hainer and CEO Oliver Kahn also sent their congratulations:
President Herbert Hainer: “Big congratulations to Sadio Mane for coming second in the Ballon d’Or, as well as his award for his social work. Sadio is a great person. We’re proud to have him playing for Bayern as of this season. We’re also pleased about Jamal Musiala’s third-place finish in the Kopa Trophy for the best youth player. Jamal has a great career ahead of him – we firmly believe that. It’s also a great honour for FC Bayern that the trophy for the best goalscorer in the world has been named after our Gerd Müller. Congratulations to Robert Lewandowski.“
CEO Oliver Kahn: “Second place in the vote for the best player in the world and an award for his social work – I’m delighted for Sadio Mane, big congratulations. Congratulations also to Jamal Musiala for coming third in the category for best youth player. That shows what a gem Bayern has. And the fact the best goalscorer in the world will now be awarded the Gerd Müller Trophy is a wonderful homage to one of the greatest footballers in history. Congratulations as well to Robert Lewandowski for being the first winner of that award.”
