Yann Sommer made his debut for FC Bayern on Friday night, just a day after joining the record champions from Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 34-year-old goalkeeper went straight into the starting line-up, helping Bayern draw 1-1 away to RB Leipzig.
"After the two-month break, it was straight back into a really intense game," Sommer explained. "Not everything went according to plan, but that's normal. We'll take a point against a very good Leipzig side."
Praise from Nagelsmann
Despite the result, Julian Nagelsmann was full of praise for Sommer after the final whistle.
"Yann played really well," enthused Bayern's 35-year-old coach. "He played well with the ball, had a real presence and charisma about him. He didn't have many saves to make, but stopped three or four crosses. It didn't seem like he was playing his first game for us."
Attentions turn to Köln
After the shortest of adjustment periods, Sommer now wants to get fully acquainted with all things Bayern.
"I'm really looking forward to the challenge at such a great club," the Switzerland international said. "I'm slowly getting there, and will start to settle in Munich in the coming days."
Not that Sommer has much time for that, with a first home game of the year on the agenda this coming Tuesday (20:30 CET). "We're back at it on Tuesday, and want to get into a flow," he affirmed.
