FC Bayern and Bochum fans marked 50 years of friendship between the two sets of supporters with a special tifo ahead of the sides’ meeting at the Allianz Arena on Saturday. Ahead of kick-off, the Südkurve produced badges of both clubs with the message “50 years of Bayern and VfL” on a red and blue background. Up in the away section in the northeast part of the stadium, they had “Found decades ago – connected forever”.
The two fan scenes organised a charter train for the journey to the Allianz Arena where travelling Bochum supporters and Bayern fans from the area could make the 600-kilometre trip together. There are further joint activities planned around the game as well.
Start of a long friendship
The creation of this long-standing friendship is attributed to a meeting between the clubs on 3 November 1973. Following Bayern’s 1-0 win away in Bochum, with Uli Hoeneß the goalscorer, the visiting fans were attacked. However, the ‘Bochumer Jungen‘ – one of the home side’s oldest fan clubs – stood by the Bayern supporters’ side. The result of that is a close friendship between the sets of fans that is still going strong today:
