FC Bayern mourns the loss of former player Josef Berg, who died last Friday at the age of 86 in Taufkirchen (Vils). Born in Aschheim in the east of Munich, Berg joined the German record champions' youth team at the age of 16, and he became South German A youth champion in 1953, scoring both goals in the 2-0 final victory against 1. FC Nürnberg. In May 1955 Berg made his debut for the first team and the following season he played a major role in promotion to the then top flight, the Oberliga Süd. After one further season, Berg left Bayern for BC Augsburg.
