Sadio Mané (shirt) and probably all Bayern fans had been waiting eagerly for this moment for nearly three and a half months: the comeback of our number 17 at the Allianz Arena! You only had to look at his face to see how relieving it was for the 30-year-old Senegalese. "I've missed football," he said smiling after full time in the top-of-the-table clash against Union Berlin (3-0), in which he returned to the pitch after a long lay-off. We followed Sadio in his rehab and can now give you some unique glimpses behind the scenes in our "Comeback Story" documentary. It's worth a watch!
Sadio Mané's road to recovery - a recap
In mid-November, Mané injured his right fibula in the 6-1 Bundesliga win over Werder Bremen. That was followed by an operation, in which a tendon had to be reattached. For the African Footballer of the Year, the dream of playing in the World Cup in Qatar was over.
Mané then grafted towards his comeback on the pitch in numerous intense rehab sessions in the performance centre at Säbener Straße over the winter.
In late January, the Senegalese took an important step in his recovery as he began running around 10 weeks after his operation, feeling the grass under his feet again for the first time.
Within just a week, Mané was back on the ball.
Then, in the middle of February, at an open training session at Säbener Straße, Mané finally got to train with his teammates again. The forward clearly enjoyed the moment and took lots of time out afterwards for selfies and autographs with the fans in attendance.
Mané's special moment: in the home match against Union, the 30-year-old made his comeback after almost three and a half months of pain.
