The disappointment was plain to see following FC Bayern's 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim on Bundesliga Matchday 28. "It was a long way from what we had in mind or needed," said head coach Thomas Tuchel. "We were lacking in all areas today - no intensity, no energy, technical errors," bemoaned defender Matthijs de Ligt. Bayern must now put the result behind them and focus on Wednesday's must-win Champions League quarter-final second leg at home to Manchester City. "We have to get the game and performance out of our heads. We'll review things tomorrow and then look ahead to Wednesday," explained Thomas Müller. fcbayern.com rounds up the rest of the reaction...
Reaction to the Hoffenheim draw
Thomas Tuchel: "It was a long way from what we had in mind or needed. It's difficult to digest. We played with very little energy and pace overall and had very little conviction, a lot of uncertainty. There were so many simple mistakes, yet we had enough chances to win the game. It's not what we wanted. I really expected a different performance. The preparations were good, but we weren't able to deliver on the pitch."
Thomas Müller: "It's hard to explain because we actually trained well, with a lot of energy. But the game is on Saturday, not Friday. Even when you're not playing well, you have to take the chances that come your way - that makes things easier. It gives us pause for thought, but thankfully things move quickly in football and now we have to seize the next opportunity. We have to get the game and performance out of our heads. We'll review things tomorrow and then look ahead to Wednesday."
Joshua Kimmich: "It's hard to explain, especially given what's on the line. Every point counts in the Bundesliga, so I can't explain the performance. There was a lack of concentration, a carelessness. When you're flat like we were, you're not going to win. It didn't feel like our attacking players missed many chances, even though we created opportunites. It was a bad performance today. We have to do better. I'm able to separate Wednesday's game against City from today's. We all know that we need a completely different performance. We know we can do it, but we have to put it into action on the pitch. And then not just every two weeks, but every three days."
Matthijs de Ligt: "We were lacking in all areas today - no intensity, no energy, technical errors. The Manchester City game took its toll physically and mentally, but that's no excuse. As a Bayern player, you have to be ready to play every three days. That wasn't the case today. We have to analyse the game and recuperate. There was no energy from us. Hopefully the City game can boost our confidence levels going into the final weeks of the season."
Reaction from the Hoffenheim camp
Pellegrino Matarazzo (Hoffenheim head coach): "We allowed ourselves to be pushed back in the early stages, and weren't brave enough when we had the ball. Then we deservedly fell behind from a corner. We were more courageous after the break and deserved to equalise."
Oliver Baumann (Hoffenheim goalkeeper): "We're happy with the point. Hats off to the team for the way we played, created chances and defended. It shows what great character we have. I'm proud of that."
