Thomas Tuchel: A really good team performance

FC Bayern showed the perfect response to their DFB Cup exit at the hands of Freiburg by winning 1-0 in the Black Forest on Bundesliga Matchday 27. The result keeps Bayern on pole, and was just the tonic ahead of next Tuesday's UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg away to Manchester City. "It was a very important win. We played well, but have room for improvement," said Matthijs de Ligt, whose long-range rocket decided the contest. "We fully deserved to win, but it was a close affair right until the end because we failed to score more goals," admitted head coach Thomas Tuchel. fcbayern.com rounds up the rest of the reaction...

Reaction to the win in Freiburg

Thomas Tuchel: "We fully deserved to win, but it was a close affair right until the end because we failed to score more goals. We had a ridiculous amount of chances, but didn't take them. We lacked precision and composure. We were switched on, diligent and only gave one chance away before the break. It was a very good team performance. The three points outweigh our missed chances - that's important. I was happy with everyone. It's not enough just to win the tactical and technical battles here in Freiburg - you need something extra. Tuesday's a different game, a different assignment - we'll be ready."

Joshua Kimmich: "It was an incredibly important win for us. We really needed it. We played well, controlled the game and gave little away. We have to wrap things up earlier, otherwise it leaves the door open. Freiburg sat deep, we had a lot of the ball. Tuesday will definitely be a different game."

Matthijs de Ligt: "It was a very important win. We played well, but have room for improvement. I saw the space and had a go [for the goal]. A bit of luck was involved, but it's an unbelievable feeling."

Yann Sommer: "We created plenty of chances, but we lacked the cutting edge needed to make the points safe earlier in the game. We were full of running and, overall, did a good job. We'll analyse the game and take the positives. We created a lot of space and goal-scoring chances. I'm really looking forward to the game on Tuesday between two top sides."

Reaction from the Freiburg camp

Christian Streich (head coach): "Congratulations to Bayern on the win. On Tuesday, we scored with a long-range effort - today Bayern did and deserved to win. It would've been exciting if we'd have taken the lead through Ritsu Doan. I'm really happy with my team, but not the result. Bayern had more chances, but we had chances to get a draw. The long-range effort decided it."

Christian Günter (captain): "I never like losing. We'd have liked to get something from the game, but couldn't pull it off today. There are still more games to go, nothing's decided yet. We're in a pretty decent position."

Vincenzo Grifo (forward): "With a bit of luck and a better final ball, perhaps we'd have got a goal. Bayern had good chances. They won it with a worldie - that's tough to take."
