Fresh from beating Hertha Berlin 2-0 at home to go back top of the Bundesliga table, FC Bayern welcomed fans to an open training session at Säbener Straße on Monday morning. With Labour Day being a public holiday, there was an excellent atmosphere both on and off the pitch with Sunday’s crucial victory still fresh in the minds of everyone present. And there were around 1,800 people who packed into the training ground asking for selfies and autographs while also getting the chance to see the league leaders in action up close.
First place reclaimed
“The win was extremely important to be back on top. Now we’re in a situation again where we can influence everything ourselves,” Joshua Kimmich had said the day before to underline the significance of the result. Since leaders Borussia Dortmund had previously drawn 1-1 in Bochum on the Friday, Bayern knew they could reclaim the advantage in the Bundesliga title race – something they don’t want to give up again. “We’re back! We’ll win it,” said Thomas Müller in the Allianz Arena tunnel on Sunday afternoon.

President Herbert Hainer succinctly summarised what that now means for the run-in: “Four wins and then we’re champions.” The first of those final four games is away at Werder Bremen on Saturday evening as Bayern look to replicate the performance that saw them win the reverse fixture 6-1 at home and take a step closer to an 11th straight Meisterschale.
