The Meisterschale is back in its rightful home! At 22:43 local time, the FC Bayern team bus arrived at Motorworld in Munich. With one very important piece of luggage: the Bundesliga trophy, which minutes later Thomas Müller presented to the families, friends, staff and officials of FC Bayern in attendance. "We're ready to get the party started," declared a cheerful Müller on the stage. The title celebrations could begin.
The party atmosphere from the trophy presentation and the dressing room continued on the flight back to Munich. Jamal Musiala and Co went straight went from the airport to Motorworld in north Munich, where the 33rd league title in the club's history was copiously celebrated. Müller, a veteran of such celebrations, struck up a rendition of "German football champions, FCB!" to start with and the guests joined in. Eleven championships in a row – three cheers for this generation of players!
The delight and relief was written on the faces of head coach Thomas Tuchel – celebrating his first Bundesliga title – his staff and the players following the last-minute 2-1 win over Köln on Saturday afternoon. Musiala's late goal made Bayern fans' hearts leap for joy, and it was only the Bavarians who were celebrating afterwards.
"What a group!" beamed Bayern president Herbert Hainer, summarising an extraordinary day in Cologne. "What the team produced today was different class. They believed in themselves and fought until the last minute. Hats off!" However, Bayern wouldn't be Bayern if they weren't already looking ahead. Even before Müller & Co disappeared down the red carpet towards the dance floor, Hainer concluded: "From tomorrow we're going into the new season."
Before that, there's the title celebrations on the town hall balcony at Marienplatz. Follow LIVE:
