What a way to kick off the Allianz FC Bayern Team Presentation! The legends of FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund faced off in the big rematch of the Champions League final on Sunday. Numerous heroes from 2013 took part and ensured an excellent atmosphere among the 45,000 fans inside the Allianz Arena.
Big names on both sides
Lining up for Bayern were Tom Starke, Lukas Raeder, Maximilian Riedmüller, Hans-Jörg Butt, Dante, Daniel van Buyten, Mario Mandžukić, Roy Makaay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Luiz Gustavo, Zé Roberto, Rafinha, Claudio Pizarro, Jérôme Boateng, Thomas Linke, Diego Contento, Vladimir Rankovic, Andreas Ottl, Klaus Augenthaler, Giovane Élber, Ivica Olić and Paulo Sergio. For Borussia Dortmund, Roman Weidenfeller, Sven Bender, Mladen Petrić, Leonardo Dedê, Kevin Großkreutz, Oliver Kirch, Julian Schieber, David Odonkor, Felipe Santana, Marcel Schmelzer, Antonio da Silva, Ibrahim Tanko, Moritz Leitner and Jörg Heinrich turned out.
In a lively contest played in two halves of 30 minutes, FC Bayern Legends made the better start and took the lead in the 15th minute, when "Football God" Schweinsteiger - who initially captained the team - setting up Pizarro for the opener. "The goal felt like old times. The treble was the greatest moment of my career. We were a real unit, as we showed again today," said Pizarro.
Same scoreline as Wembley
In the stands, the spectators celebrated with Mexican waves. "For me and my teammates, it's very special to play in front of the Bayern fans in this stadium. It's great that we can spend a day like this together," commented Schweinsteiger. The high point of the match was provided by Luiz Gustavo. The former FCB midfielder made it 2-0 with a superb long-distance cracker into the top corner. Großkreutz then made it 2-1 in the last minute, meaning the rematch ended in the same result as the big UCL final 10 years ago.
