Tuchel: A good mix of controlled play and quick attacks

An all-round superior performance meant FC Bayern made a very good start to the new Bundesliga season. The men from Munich won 4-0 at Werder Bremen on Friday. "It was a great evening," summed up new signing Harry Kane, who scored the goal to make it 2-0 on 74 minutes. "We played a very solid, very good game from start to finish, had no ups and downs, neither in concentration, nor in energy or compactness," concluded coach Thomas Tuchel. fcbayern.com rounds up the rest of the reaction...

Reaction to the match at Werder Bremen

Thomas Tuchel: "We played a very solid, very good game from start to finish, had no ups and downs, neither in concentration, nor in energy or compactness. We did our thing. There was a difficult phase at the beginning of the second half, but we got through it together. We stayed patient and didn't do anything crazy. The all-important second goal was the deciding factor in taking home the three points. We had a good mix between controlled play and quick attacks. Our counter-pressing was good, we didn’t give them much space. I felt we all worked well together for the whole 90 minutes. This is a good first step."

Harry Kane: "It was a great evening. We started well with the early goal, but it was a difficult game after that. They came out onto the pitch strong after half-time and had a few chances. I'm glad I was able to score the second goal. After that, the guys who came off the bench did a great job securing the three points. Of course, I was a bit nervous, particularly because of the new environment and the new club. But when I was on the pitch, instinct took over and I'm glad we got a good result. It was a good step forward from the Leipzig game. We had a few chances in the first half and could have wrapped it up earlier. But we also defended better and we're very happy with a clean sheet."

Sven Ulreich: "Today we delivered exactly what we'd planned and what we'd worked on in training. We had a focused passing game and a focused tackling game. That was the key to success today, alongside the fact that we didn’t let Bremen have too many attempts on goal."

Reaction from the Werder Bremen camp

Ole Werner (Werder Bremen head coach): "Of course, it was the worst possible start to the game. In the first half, we didn't play with enough courage in defending, but also in simply playing football. We did better after the break and created more chances. After the second goal, at 2-0, we focused on all-out attack but Bayern brought on fresh legs. That’s how things against Bayern can go, but we're still disappointed. Especially in the second half, we worked hard to try and get a better result."

Marco Friedl (Werder Bremen): "You can't possibly start a game in a worse way. We shouldn’t let that happen. After that we did well. Bayern created the better chances, of course. But we came out of half-time well and were aggressive. The two goals in injury time are hard to stomach, so the 4-0 scoreline is extremely hard to stomach - it's also too big a defeat."

Niclas Füllkrug (Werder Bremen): "Of course Bayern's victory is deserved. In the first half, we weren’t pressing effectively and we didn't push through their defence well enough. But it was only 1-0. We came out of half-time better and had some good phases. After the 2-0 our effort levels dropped, and we let Bayern create too many chances.
