‘Generation Wembley’ – Documentary takes fans on emotional journey into the past

FC Bayern Munich has produced its own documentary to mark the 10th anniversary of its Champions League victory at Wembley against Borussia Dortmund, which will be shown in non-German-speaking countries on FC Bayern TV PLUS from 20 October. The six-part series outlines the journey to the first treble in the club's history in 2013 and in fact begins in the years before, when the team and the entire club steadily developed through ups and downs.

In the documentary, players, coaches and decision-makers from back then tell how they experienced everything that moved them and what it means to them, even with the distance of a whole decade, to be part of this history and of FC Bayern. Bayern legends such as Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben, as well as Uli Hoeneß, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Louis van Gaal and Jupp Heynckes, have their say. In addition, companions and opponents, such as Sir Alex Ferguson, José Mourinho, Hans-Joachim Watzke or the current Barcelona coach Xavi, describe their view of the German record champions. Football fans can look forward to exclusive insights and emotional scenes from matches – and anecdotes that have never been spoken about.

Producers Dominik Beyer and Bianca Preysing from FC Bayern's club media team have staged the images with true-to-life detail and a great deal of passion so that football fans can experience not only the triumph itself in this documentary but also the long journey to Wembley from a whole new perspective.

"With this documentary, we want to take a special journey through time to unique moments in the history of FC Bayern together with the fans 10 years on. All the central figures will have their say, and highly emotional images will revive the memories," said Stefan Mennerich, director of media & communications at FC Bayern. "This series is another step for our club's own production and content area. We want to produce and offer more high-quality documentaries for our fans in the future."
