There was a special guest among the fans at the Allianz Arena on Friday night. Serge Ibaka, FC Bayern Basketball's new signing and a big football fan, took the opportunity following his successful medical to watch the 2-2 draw against Bayer 04 Leverkusen from the stands. President Herbert Hainer greeted the long-time NBA star at the half-time break and welcomed him to Munich on behalf of the club.
We are "incredibly proud and happy that such a highly decorated athlete as Serge Ibaka believes in our path at FC Bayern Basketball," said Hainer. "I'm sure that our young players in particular will benefit massively from his great experience."
"For me, it's a privilege to be able to join this historic, world-renowned sports club so that FC Bayern's basketball team can also reach the top in Europe," Ibaka explained, "I had a long NBA career, but I am approaching this new chapter with a lot of enthusiasm – I still have a lot of fire in me and I love the game. The fact that Pablo Laso is the coach was also a deciding factor for me. For me, he is one of the best coaches in the world."
