FC Bayern youngsters Jamal Musiala and Mathys Tel have been named among the 25 finalists for the 2023 Golden Boy Award given to the best U21 player in Europe over the past season.
The selection was made with the help of an algorithm that was mainly based on sporting performances, playing time and the strength of the club. It saw 20 players advance to the final, with a further five selected by Italian sports magazine Tuttosport. Bayern, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Benfica and RB Leipzig are the only clubs with two players on the final shortlist. The winner will now be chosen by 50 sports journalists from across Europe.
Musiala third in 2021
This year’s award is for players who were born in 2003 or later. The last two winners have come from Barcelona, with Pedri in 2021 and Gavi in 2022. Musiala came third in the 2021 vote.
