Thomas Müller: ‘That's the hallmark of a team’

“In the end, you don't just need 11 players, you need more,” summarised Joshua Kimmich after Bayern’s 2-1 win away at Copenhagen in the Champions League. Willpower and good substitutions by Thomas Tuchel saw FCB come from a goal down to claim victory. Players and the coach were therefore content with the result. “I’m pleased we turned the game around,” Tuchel stated. Thomas Müller, who came on and set up fellow sub Mathys Tel for the winner, added: “That’s the hallmark of a team.” fcbayern.com rounds up the reaction to the game.

Reaction to the game away at Copenhagen

Thomas Tuchel: “We knew how tough it would be. It was really important not to get frustrated or lose concentration, but to keep at it and use the smallest opportunities. We managed that. Copenhagen defended very tightly, very compactly, and it got really tough after 1-0. It was tough to open them up, even when we had a few good moments in transition. We controlled the game. We allowed them nothing for a long stretch, and then to go behind with their first half chance. That was annoying. Copenhagen got a point in the first game and then would’ve been on four. You could sense that in the stadium. We remained patient, brought on top energy from the bench and deservedly turned the game around. I’m pleased we turned it around.”

Thomas Müller: “It all worked out well in the end – also for me personally. Coming on to be involved in a goal is especially fun. It’s nice that we came back. That's the hallmark of a team. Even if we have to be accused of shortcomings, why we go behind or don’t win 2-0 or 3-0. This is a Champions League game, we’re here away at Copenhagen. They didn’t lose a game here last year. They know what to do and made us feel that. We’ll take the three points and hopefully see the lessons on Sunday.”

Joshua Kimmich: "It was a difficult game and we needed patience. Especially in the first half we were knocking it around a lot outside the penalty area. We controlled the game. In the second half we had to remain patient, but we also knew we had to do more in attack. But you make one or two mistakes, and you're behind. It was important that we came back. We know we have a lot of quality on the bench. That’s rescued us several times this season. In the end, you don't just need 11 players, you need more. That's what got us the win today."

Sven Ulreich: "We knew what to expect, especially with the atmosphere here. In the end, we showed great resilience and won the game with our fighting spirit. It's nice when you make a vital save in the last minute, especially when you didn't have much else to do in the game. I'm happy I managed to claw the ball the other side of the post and we were able to take home the three points."
