Leon Goretzka: ‘Felt great today’

Bayern put in an impressive display with a commanding 3-0 win at home to Freiburg at the Allianz Arena on Sunday evening, with players and staff pleased with what they saw. “It was a good performance from us. We implemented a lot today that we’d planned,” said Leon Goretzka afterwards. Coach Thomas Tuchel agreed: “It was a very good display today. We played with great concentration and fluency from start to finish.” fcbayern.com rounds up the reaction to the game.

Reaction to Freiburg game

Thomas Tuchel: “I’m obviously very pleased with the game and the result. We deserved the result. It was a very good display today. We played with great concentration and fluency from start to finish. We created a lot of chances today and allowed very few.”

Leon Goretzka: “It was a good performance from us. We implemented a lot today that we’d planned. We showed from the start that we didn’t want to miss out on anything. We were extremely good in gegenpressing, meaning we had a lot of possession in the first half and pinned the opponent back in their own half. It felt great on the pitch today, so we’re very pleased.”

Kingsley Coman: “I’m very happy we won. We played really well. It was very important, we haven’t lost a game yet in the Bundesliga. We’re in good form and want to keep going.”

Reaction from the Freiburg camp

Christian Streich (head coach): “We had no chance today against Bayern because we couldn’t compensate for certain things. The only thing we could’ve done was work hard and leave everything out there on the pitch. The team did that. There was nothing more possible today. We went to the edge today. You don’t have a chance there against a team like Bayern. I’m pleased that it only ended 3-0 in the end because there could’ve been more goals. Luckily, we stopped that.”

Vincenzo Grifo (midfielder): “It’s frustrating. You know when you come to Munich that you’ll have to run, work hard and suffer. It was the same in the cup last year. We suffered and only had a few moments for us. It was tough today because Bayern were assured in possession. We were very deep and didn’t have any relief. It meant we had a long way to go to goal. It was 2-0 at the break and we knew there was something possible if we scored a goal. But in the end we ran out of strength, and it was a deserved win for Bayern overall.”
