FC Bayern extend contracts of Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich

For many years, captain Manuel Neuer, 37, and Sven Ulreich, 35, have been FC Bayern’s safe pairs of hands – and they’ll remain so. The club have now extended each of their contracts by a year until 30 June 2025.

Jan-Christian Dreesen: “Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich are simply a dream team. It’s a pleasure to watch them in their daily work. They support and motivate each other and exemplify the values that characterise FC Bayern. Sven was more than worthy cover for Manuel during his injury lay-off, and we know we can count on him. Manuel has shown since his comeback that he’s not lost any of his ability. We’re therefore delighted that this magnificent combination will continue to play for FC Bayern. They’re not just colleagues but also friends, and their shared fair play is exemplary.”

Christoph Freund: “We’ve very glad to have Manuel and Sven with us beyond the current season. Together with Daniel Peretz they form a goalkeeping team that’s second to none. Their quality, as athletes and as people, and their teamwork are excellent. Manuel is our captain and has been the best goalkeeper in the world for many years. He’s taken goalkeeping to a new level and follows in the tradition of great FC Bayern keepers like Sepp Maier and Oliver Kahn. Sven has not least shown his class in recent months, when Manuel was out. He’s also an important integrative factor in the dressing room with his calm and open manner.”

Manuel Neuer: “I’m happy to be staying at FC Bayern for another year. After my long injury, I’m back in full swing. It’s immense fun for me to be on the pitch with this team. I’m sure that, together with the fans, we can achieve our big goals in the coming years – and obviously the 2025 Champions League final in Munich is one of them. Knowing that I still have Sven by my side makes it even nicer.”

Sven Ulreich: “When I came to FC Bayern from Stuttgart in 2015, I never would’ve thought I’d stay here for so long. Now I’ve extended my contract until 2025 and will continue to do my bit to help us achieve our aims. I’m pleased to continue working together with Manuel and also Daniel Peretz and our goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner. I've had much more in common with Manuel than just a passion for football – we're friends.”

Neuer joined Bayern from FC Schalke 04 in 2011 and has captained the side since 2017. He’s won the treble of the Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB Cup twice with FCB (2013, 2020) as well as the FIFA Club World Cup twice in the same years. He’s been a Bundesliga champion 11 times and won the DFB Cup on six occasions. In total he’s made 494 appearances in a Bayern shirt, and could draw level with Bastian Schweinsteiger (500) in the all-time appearance ranking before the end of the year. Neuer is also Germany’s most-capped goalkeeper (117 games) and was part of the team that won the World Cup in 2014.

Ulreich came to Bayern in 2015 from VfB Stuttgart and, aside from a brief spell at Hamburger SV in the 2020/21 season, has been with the German record champions since. He celebrated the treble in 2020 and has won seven Bundesliga titles along with three DFB Cups. Ulreich has made 98 appearances in goal for FCB to date.
