Previous meetings
The German and Swiss FCB have played each five times competitively before, of which the Bavarians have won four. Bayern fans will particularly remember the teams’ most recent encounter in 2012, when Franck Ribéry and Co. triumphed 7-0 at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League round of 16. Basel's sole win had come in the first leg (1-0).
About Basel
The squad of the 20-time Swiss champions includes former Bundesliga players like Marwin Hitz, Fabian Frei and Jean-Kévin Augustin. Coach Fabio Celestini’s side finished fifth in the Swiss Super League last term. Basel won the league eight years in a row from 2010 to 2017, but Young Boys have claimed the crown five times in the last six seasons.
