FC Bayern defender Minjae Kim provided an assist as South Korea won their opening game of the 2023 Asian Cup 3-1 against Bahrain. The 27-year-old centre-back started for coach Jürgen Klinsmann’s team and was substituted after 72 minutes.

In-Beom Hwang put the dominant South Koreans ahead in the first half before Abdullah Al-Hashash grabbed a surprise equaliser for Bahrain after the restart. Kim then helped restore the advantage only five minutes later when his delivery from the left round Kang-In Lee, who picked out the bottom left corner. The Paris Saint-Germain forward then made it 3-1 with 68 minutes gone. Kim and his compatriots are next in action on Saturday for their second group game against Jordan.
