Thomas Tuchel: Comfortable win, job done

Great start to the year for Bayern Munich! On Friday evening, Bayern deservedly beat Hoffenheim 3-0 in freezing temperatures at the Allianz Arena. After the match, the head coach and players expressed their satisfaction with the outcome. “That's the kind of result you want to start the year,” coach Thomas Tuchel summarised. Match winner Jamal Musiala, who scored the first two goals, added: “It was important to keep a clean sheet and take the three points.” fcbayern.com summarises the reaction.

Reaction to the match against TSG Hoffenheim

Thomas Tuchel: “That's the kind of result you want to start the year. We had a very good training week in terms of spirit and drive. However, we've still not consistently transferred this willingness, this joy and the hunger to our games. But it was a joy to watch today. We needed a bit of luck in some moments when Manu saved two good chances and we didn't concede the equaliser. But in the end it's a comfortable 3-0 win. Job done!"

Thomas Müller: “A lot can happen in 90 minutes. Good things and not so good things. In the middle of the game we needed Manuel Neuer. He was there for us and held on to the lead. At that moment, the momentum could have changed but that's exactly why we have Manu at the back. After that, we decided the game. Overall, it was a decent performance. We lacked a certain ease but we were very strong against the ball. Our counter-pressing was good and so were our set-pieces. Altogether, it wasn't perfect but we won 3-0. I'm happy.“

Jamal Musiala: “It was a great game and I really enjoyed it. Now, we move on. We had a lot of possession. We counter-pressed well and won the ball often. We could have created a few more chances but it was important to keep a clean sheet and take the three points.”

Reaction from the Hoffenheim camp

Pellegrino Matarazzo (TSG Hoffenheim coach): “We didn't allow many big chances because we gave a very compact performance. We conceded the opener from a set-piece which was very bitter for us. In the first half, we were unable to trouble Bayern's defence enough. That improved during the course of the game. After the break we played very well and created some great chances. The 2-0 and the sending-off decided the game.”

Oliver Baumann (TSG Hoffenheim keeper): “We could have got more. In the second half, there was a period during which we had three very good chances to score. We were playing well then. We played well in the first half too and gave a courageous performance. Three conceded goals are too much. Towards the end it was difficult being one man down.”

Maximilian Beier (TSG Hoffenheim striker): “We settled into the second half very well. I had two good chances to score. The first one was saved well by Manuel Neuer. I could have placed the second one better. If we score from one of those chances, it's an open game.
