Fighting spirit and Kane: FCB rewarded with last-minute win

These images spoke for themselves. After his energetic performance and thrusting solo run before Harry Kane's opening goal, Jamal Musiala sprinted towards the South terrace, leapt into the air, clenched his fists and loudly released his joy, the pressure he had built up and his relief. Because after FC Bayern's last-minute 2-1 home win against RB Leipzig on Saturday evening, the conclusion can only be this: Bayern can fight their way back and defy the odds, even after three painful defeats in their last three competitive matches.

Jamal Musiala was once again one of Bayern's most active players and was one of the instigators of the 1-0.

Another moment in the same vein: when the referee finally blew the final whistle after more than four minutes of stoppage time - in which striker Kane scored the winner in the 90th minute - several players raised their fists in celebration into the cold Munich night sky. Matthijs de Ligt, Leon Goretzka and Manuel Neuer knew that was tough and that was close. But it was also deserved, because FC Bayern players never give up - and believe in victory right to the end.

Dreesen: A deserved win

FCB have already scored 15 goals in the last 15 minutes this Bundesliga season - the highest among all top flight teams. This mentality gives hope for the final phase of the campaign. "I'm very happy that we saw a reaction from the team," summarised Jan-Christian Dreesen, FC Bayern's CEO, after the home win. "We played much better than we did in the last three games. Fortunately, we scored the opener and then Manuel made a world-class save. The bottom line is that we deserved to win."

Bayern still strong at home

In addition to returning to winning ways after defeats in Leverkusen (3-0), to Lazio in Rome (1-0) and Bochum (3-2), one series came to an end on Saturday and another was continued: After four games without a win against the powerful Saxony side, Leipzig were defeated again - and the third home win in a row demonstrated that FC Bayern are confident on their own turf, as is now underlined by ten wins in 12 Bundesliga home games.

In addition to the lively Jamal Musiala, Aleksandar Pavlović and Raphaël Guerreiro two veterans in particular stood out in a cohesive team: Kane and captain Neuer.

Kane's Bundesliga goals 26 and 27

The 30-year-old England international could have netted in the first half, but Bayern's dominant display was yet to be rewarded. After 56 minutes, the time had come and Kane scored to give Bayern the all-important 1-0 lead for the sixth time. The Bundesliga top scorer then netted the winner in stoppage time to take his tally to 27 goals in 23 games. Never before has a player needed so few appearances to achieve this total.

Neuer with a world-class save

The Red Bulls were more determined after the break and were able to create several chances. Fortunately FCB can rely on their number one goalkeeper in a phase like this. Neuer made a world-class save to deny Benjamin Šeško in the 61st minute and also prevailed in the same duel three minutes later. Shortly afterwards, he had no chance when the Slovenian scored with a deflected shot. However, the men in front of him brushed off this phase of Leipzig pressure and believed in themselves and the right response. This mindset was to pay off - thanks to Kane's last-minute goal.

The GOATkeeper: Manuel Neuer produced an absolute world-class save after 61 minutes.

"It sounds a bit 'typical Bayern' to win the game so late," said Neuer after the final whistle. "But I think it was deserved today." His coach Thomas Tuchel also saw a "close game against strong opponents. We scored the goal when Leipzig were pressing. Then we gave a good reaction after the equaliser."

1000th Bundesliga home game

The 1,000th Bundesliga home game in the club's history will therefore remain a memorable one. Looking ahead, the coming weeks will show whether it can also serve as a kind of turning point - after the end of the losing streak and Tuchel's imminent departure at the end of the season. As the head coach said: "We have to go one better, one better and win every game."
