
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, supervisory board member and former CEO at FC Bayern, received an official farewell from the UEFA Executive Committee with striking words on Thursday. "You are the person in football who has impressed me most," said UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin directing his thanks to Rummenigge who impressed him not only as a player but also "as a man, leader and charismatic person."
Čeferin to Rummenigge: "Football loves you"
"What you have done was for the good of football. Football loves you," said Čeferin who simultaneously declared his intention to continue to rely on the advice of the former world class striker. "We still need you. We need your wisdom which we will always need."
Rummenigge was appointed to the UEFA Executive Committee, which he was also a member of from 2016 to 2017, in 2021 as a representative of the ECA. Rummenigge was chair of the ECA from 2008 to 2017.
