The excitement has been plain to see on Kingsley Coman's face. He's been non-stop smiling on the FC Bayern training pitch at Säbener Straße over the past few days and has had a lot of fun, even though the sessions have been intense. "I'm doing very well," said the attacker in an interview with fcbayern.com.
Coman: "I feel good and I'm fit"
It's been almost exactly two months since the 27-year-old suffered an MCL tear in his left knee in the away game at Augsburg. "It's always difficult when you're injured because you can't help your team and have to watch," said Coman, looking back on the past few weeks. "I've worked a lot to get back. I feel good now and I'm fit. I'm delighted to be back on the pitch."
After returning to team training during the international break, the winger will feature in the record champions' squad for the first time this weekend. Coach Thomas Tuchel made the announcement in his press conference on Friday.
Coman the record holder: 12 league Klassikers - 11 wins, 1 draw
It could hardly be more fitting for Coman that his return to the squad will come against Borussia Dortmund. BVB are practically the Frenchman's favourite opponents. Coman has featured 12 times for Bayern in Der Klassiker in the Bundesliga, with the Munich side coming away as winners 11 times and drawing once. No other player in Germany's top flight has played in this particular fixture as often without losing a single game.
"I really hope that I can build on this statistic at the weekend and that we can win," revealed Coman. "Der Klassiker in Germany is always a very special game. We'll give it our all," he promised.
The match against BVB marks the start of the season run-in for Bayern following the international break. For Coman, there's just one direction to go in the final stretch: "We have to win every Bundesliga game to keep up the belief. Then we'll see what happens." Success in the league ought to also provide the final push for the knockout matches in the Champions League: "A difficult round awaits us. If we do well in the Bundesliga, we'll have more confidence for these games. We want to maintain our form with wins and build up our confidence."
