FC Bayern came back after from a goal down away at Freiburg, but ultimately had to settle for a 2-2 draw after conceding a late goal. "We played well in the second half, creating a lot of chances, but lost out in the end," said head coach Thomas Tuchel. "We'll analyse the game but there's not much time. Tuesday is a very important game, we have to be right on it from the first minute," said sporting director Christoph Freund, looking ahead to the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Lazio. fcbayern.com has summarised the post match reaction.
Reaction to the match in Freiburg
Christoph Freund: "We're disappointed, of course, because we really wanted to win the game. It's bitter, we've dropped two points. The first half hour wasn't good, that's disappointing. We created chances in the second half. We have to reflect on this and be more consistent. We'll analyse the game but there's not much time. Tuesday is a very important game, we have to be right on it from the first minute. We have 90 minutes to turn the tie around. We absolutely want to do that."
Thomas Tuchel: "We didn't play well in the first half an hour, we completely lacked structure, we were far too undisciplined and deservedly fell behind. Positionally we didn’t execute our game plan at all. We lost the ball going forward and invited our opponents to counter-attack. We then responded well, had a good second half with plenty of chances, but ultimately we've thrown away two points. We could have certainly defended the goal that we conceded a lot better. Apart from that, we completely dominated the second half and created plenty of clear goalscoring opportunities."
Jamal Musiala: "We fought hard and created plenty of chances. Sometimes it's just not meant to be. We are Bayern Munich. We always want to win. It's really annoying the way things are going at the moment. We want to be champions, we want to win titles. We have to stay positive, keep fighting through this period and play as well as we can up until the end if we want to maybe get something out of it."
Mathys Tel: "We had a lot of chances, but only scored two goals, which unfortunately wasn't enough. Of course, we have to play better. Now we have to look ahead. We have to prepare ourselves properly for the game against Lazio."
Reaction from the Freiburg camp
Christian Streich (SC Freiburg coach): "The lads did really well. They came into this dejected and exhausted after the Augsburg game because they didn't have enough left in the tank after the Lens game. That's why I'm very, very happy and pleased that players like Christian Günter and Matthias Ginter, who had been away and are now back, were able to play the full 90 minutes. The team as a whole had a really good game - passionate and confident with the ball. They deserved the point they earned."
Christian Günter (SC Freiburg defender): "There's not much to criticise. Bayern are a very, very good team and we did very well against them all things considered. You can't stop everything. We could have perhaps defended the goals we conceded a little better, but apart from that we cleared up a lot of situations very well. In the end, it's important that we never gave up. The 2-2 draw was deserved in the end."
Vincenzo Grifo (SC Freiburg midfielder): "It feels like a win. Overall, we had a good game. We can be pleased with ourselves. We had a lot of chances to score and could even have led 2-0 at one point. We played very well, especially with the ball. It's clear that you have to play deep and graft against Bayern. But we set out to play good football, keep calm on the ball and play well. I’m sure we can live with the 2-2 draw."
