“Servus” and “Auf geht’s!” were the German words that Eric Dier came out with as he began his interview with presenter Simon Köpfer, before the 30-year-old switched back to English.
However, our No.15 did promise he’d one day return to the FC Bayern Podcast as soon as he felt confident enough in German. Deal! The England international is already fluent in Portuguese from growing up there, is competent enough in Spanish, so German would be yet another string to his linguistic bow.
Regardless of which language, you’ll get to know our January signing from Tottenham Hotspur better than ever. Everyone is already aware of how he’s performed on the pitch after his successful start to life at the club, but how’s he getting on in Munich? “I love this city. We’re very happy. And even though I already knew about Bayern, I was really impressed when I arrived at how big the club really is. I’m proud to play for this club,” he said.
Dier also explained how exactly he defines himself, as an England international who came through the academy at Sporting Lisbon: “I always say I’m English but from Portugal.”
The conversation wasn’t all about football, though. Dier also discussed his private life, having become a father for the first time in January. He explains what sort of role model he wants to be and also clears up a big misunderstanding about where he comes from. The defender reveals the story behind his number 15 and answers questions from fans. A reference to “the most talented player I’ve ever seen” also features.
Listen in for an interesting and entertaining chat that includes opinions, anecdotes and Dier’s view of football, family and the future.
