It was a gripping Champions League evening at the Allianz Arena. Bayern showed a strong performance in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid. Following a first-half lead for Real Madrid, goals from Leroy Sané and Harry Kane turned the game for Munich. In the end, however, Bayern had to settle for a draw following a late equaliser from the penalty spot. "We can take a lot of positives from this game. We caused Real a lot of problems, especially in the second half. We weren't efficient enough," Harry Kane summarised. "The situation is very clear now. We need to win to make it to Wembley. It's still a 50-50 situation," said head coach Thomas Tuchel. fcbayern.com has more of the post-match reaction.
Reaction to Bayern v Real Madrid
Max Eberl: "It's all even at half-time. If we play in Madrid as we played today and avoid one or two defensive mistakes, why shouldn't we be able to win there? Real made a whole lot out of very little. You can't afford to make any mistakes. We dominated but made mistakes.
Thomas Tuchel: "We started very well in the first 10, 15 minutes and should have taken the lead. But then we strayed off our plan, played slower and became more insecure. We conceded a goal, which didn't make it easier for us. Nothing much happened in the first half. In the second half, we played better and more aggressively but then Real did what they do to all their opponents. They scored two goals from two chances. It feels weird, but the situation is very clear now. We need to win to make it to Wembley. It's still a 50-50 situation."
Manuel Neuer: "We had massive support and could feel the euphoria. It reminded me of the final against Chelsea. We already experienced a great welcome when we arrived. Thank you to our fans for the great support! Obviously, we would have loved to win and we would have deserved to. It's all open now. We're looking towards next week now. It's good to still have everything in our own hands. We want to make it to the final at Wembley."
Harry Kane: "The initial feeling is disappointment. We had the momentum on our side, and once we were 2-1 up, we had two or three good chances. That third goal would have been really important. It was a Champions League semi-final. We knew it would be tough. Now, the winner at the Bernabeu takes it all. These are the games you want to be involved in. We can take a lot of positives from tonight. We caused Real a lot of problems, especially in the second half. We weren't efficient enough. We're ready for an amazing game next week. I'm looking forward to it."
Joshua Kimmich: "I believe we were the better team and had the better chances. Of course it's annoying to concede the equaliser with a penalty. We saw today that we can do more than just keep up with them. We had stretches in the game during which we were in control and created chances. We will also be able to do that next week. Everything is open. The winner takes the cake."
Konrad Laimer: "It was a game of ups and downs. We settled in well, but then our performance deteriorated. In the second half, we were back in the game. We knew Real can slow a game down and then accelerate quickly and be dangerous. Overall, I think it was a decent performance. We had lots of chances but we weren't precise enough. It's half-time, the decision comes next week. We know what we're capable of, but we have to do even better in Madrid for the full 90 minutes."
Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid head coach):
"We tried very hard to score the equaliser, particularly towards the end of the game. Bayern showed the best version of themselves and we didn't quite achieve that. We conceded the two goals during our best periods, but we lost possession. Nothing is decided for the second leg. Bayern showed that they have players with great quality."
Toni Kroos (Real Madrid):
"There was a lot going on, both teams experienced different periods tonight. Strangely enough, all of the goals were scored while the other team was better. That can happen with this individual quality on the pitch. I think the draw is deserved. Obviously, we're convinced we can progress at home."
