Momentum for the Euro: Germany beat Greece 2-1 in their last friendly before the Euro. Julian Nagelsmann banked on a Bayern block in the starting line-up in Fridey evening's match in Mönchengladbach. As in the goalless draw against Ukraine, Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmuch and Jamal Musiala were starters.
Germany turn the tide
One week before the opener in Munich, Germany wanted to warm up with a win for their home tournament, but Greece got off to the better start. Manuel Neuer made two strong saves against Düsseldorf's Christos Tzolis after six minutes. The away side were rewarded for their early pressure ten minutes before half-time, when Giorgos Masouras slotted in (34').
Nagelsmann made two changes at half-time, bringing on Leroy Sané. Germany soon levelled the scores, Kai Havertz crowning an attack down the right when his deflected shot on the spin found the net (56').
Kimmich was subbed off midway through the second half and saw his team score a late winner, Pascal Groß hammering a shot into the top right corner of the net from the edge of the box after Greece failed to clear the ball. Thomas Müller und Aleksandar Pavlović, who are part of Germany's squad for the Euro, did not play on Friday.
England fall to Iceland
England's dress rehearsal for the Euro ended in defeat. Captain Harry Kane was a starter and played for an hour in the 1-0 defeat against Iceland. Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson handed Iceland an early lead (12'), England failing to level the scores. Gareth Southgate's men take on Serbia on 16 June (21:00 CEST).
Marocco and Noussair Mazraoui, who was not in the squad, beat Zambia 2-1 in Friday's World Cup qualifier, retaining their lead in the table. Marocco take on DR Congo in Brazzaville on Tuesday (18:00 CEST).
