FC Bayern fans marked the third anniversary of Gerd Müller’s death by taking a special train from Munich to Nördlingen last Thursday. The journey linked his birthplace and city where the legendary goalscorer made a name for himself.
After the successful first edition in 2023, fans made the special train journey for a second time this year. Almost 400 passengers, including 175 club members, took part and experienced an unforgettable day in the honour of Gerd.
The train was made up of historic carriages and was initially hauled by an electric locomotive before a steam locomotive took over from Augsburg. During the journey, authors Dr Wilfried Sponsel and Dr Michael Bast presented their book ‘Gerd Müller: Vom “Torjäger aus Nördlingen” zum “Bomber der Nation”’. In addition, Müller's old companions from Nördlingen talked about their times together.
Once again this year, a visit to the Bavarian Railway Museum and a guided tour of the historic old town with a visit to the Gerd Müller statue at the Weinmarkt were on offer before the return journey to Munich in the evening. At the suggestion of Müller’s widow Uschi, €5 from each ticket was donated to the Verschönerungsverein Nördlingen e. V. (Nördlingen Beautification Association).
New summer signing Michael Olise was introduced as a new FC Bayern player in a press talk on Thursday:
