14 seconds had been played when the ball was in the back of the net for the first time, and Bayern's attacking unit got going after it: Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala & Co. showed hunger for goals and scored six against Holstein Kiel. The victory is not among the club's biggest Bundesliga wins, but the impressive display against the promoted side reminds us of matches when Munich's attacking unit shone.
27 November 1971: Bayern make history
11-1! FC Bayern showed no leniency against Borussia Dortmund in November 1971, thrashing the Black and Yellows at the Grünwalder Stadion. The game was over at half-time, with Munich four goals up. Little did the 17,000 crowd know the Bavarians would add seven more against the side that were relegated at the end of the season. Former Dortmund keeper Jürgen Rynio talked about that day in an interview with fcbayern.com a few years ago: "We were practically hunkered down in the 18-yard box, we had absolutely no organisation. No one tried to attack, everyone was just standing around right in front of me. When Bayern tried a shot, the ball would get deflected three times." Gerd Müller stood out, scoring four goals. It is FC Bayern's biggest-ever Bundesliga win to this day.
13 March 1984: Rummenigge's dream start sets Bayern on their way
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and his team came close to the record win in March 1984. The FCB forward scored three goals against Kickers Offenbach until the 36th minute and went on to win 9-0 with Bayern. Munich finished fourth that season, whereas Offenbach were relegated.
10 September 1976: Der Bomber scores five
Bayern won by the same scoreline when they entertained Tennis Borussia Berlin in September 1976. The attacking unit featuring Gerd Müller (five goals) and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (three) set off fireworks in front of the 15,000 crowd at Munich's Olympic Stadium and went on to win 9-0.
28 October 2023: Eight goals in one half
Even younger Bayern fans will remember this victory. The 8-0 win over Darmstadt 98 wasn't only special because of the scoreline. Munich scored all eight goals after a goalless first half. Harry Kane sent the fans into raptures with a wonder strike from over 50 metres to round off the match.
18 September 2020: Goal fest on Matchday 1
Bayern laid down a marker on Matchday 1 of the 2020/21 season. The scoreboard read 8-0 when referee Felix Zwayer blew for full-time in the match between FC Bayern and Schalke 04. Serge Gnabry netted three times and Leroy Sané scored his maiden goal in his first Bundesliga match for the freshly-crowned treble winners.
25 February 2017: Lewandowski & Co. on fire
Hamburger SV suffered a number of big defeats against FC Bayern in recent years, most recently at the Allianz Arena in February 2017. Lewandowski (three goals), Kingsley Coman (two) & Co. netted seven times until the 69th minute, Arjen Robben adding the final flourish in the closing stages. Hamburg were relegated for the first time in club history at the end of the season.
14 February 2015: FCB become Hamburg's bogey team
Almost exactly two years ago, Bayern had already netted eight times against HSV. Pep Guardiola's men were utterly dominant throughout. Mario Götze, Arjen Robben and Thomas Müller each scored twice.
30 March 2013: Treble winners rout HSV
Bayern enjoyed a goal fest at home against Hamburg in the 2012/13 treble season. Manuel Neuer was beaten twice, but the attacking unit more than made up for it, netting nine times. Franck Ribéry got the last goal in the 76th minute before the German record champions engaged cruise control.
9 March 2024: Gnabry's piece of artistry, Goretzka's fine display
This victory was balm for the soul from a Bayern point of view. In the final spurt of the last season, Leverkusen extended the gap at the top of the table. The 8-1 goal fest against 1. FSV Mainz 05 helped retain a theoretical chance of winning the title and increase the confidence with regard to the Champions League. The fans have fond memories of Serge Gnabry's artistic back-heel goal and Leon Goretzka's fine display including two goals and two assists.
7 May 2011: Robben & Co. thrash St. Pauli
Bayern proved they can achieve runaway wins on the road on Saturday. FC St. Pauli shared Kiel's fate when they lost 8-1 at home in May 2011. Arjen Robben was unstoppable, scoring two and setting up three goals in the goal fest. Mario Gómez bagged a hat-trick.
