FC Bayern is once again setting an example with its Allianz Arena to raise awareness of breast cancer prevention. As was the case last year, the club’s home stadium will be lit up in pink to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. The special lighting will be visible in the Fröttmaning evening sky after the final whistle of Bayern’s match against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, 19 October. The Allianz Arena will also be lit up in pink on 20 October from 7pm when FC Bayern Women play their Bundesliga match away at Bayer Leverkusen.
“For FC Bayern, cancer prevention is a socio-politically relevant topic that we want to get involved in,” says deputy CEO Michael Diederich. Bianca Rech, director of FC Bayern Women, also sees an important message here: “Cancer prevention must not be a taboo subject. After our commitment to this issue last year, we are also reaching many young girls and women this year with FC Bayern Women to raise awareness of this topic.”
It’s one of many campaigns that Bayern is organising together with Allianz and the DKMS (German Bone Marrow Donor File) as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. At the beginning of the month, the club hosted a Pink October brunch at the Allianz Arena, which focussed on education and prevention in the fight against breast cancer. The new special FC Bayern Women’s jersey, which was developed together with adidas and LeGer by Lena Gercke, was also presented during the panel discussion. The pink elements on the kit are intended to emphasise awareness and support for breast cancer prevention.
The women wore the kit in their Bundesliga match away at Wolfsburg last weekend. All jerseys worn will now be auctioned off in aid of the DKMS. Fans have the opportunity to donate at all FCB stores and at the payment terminals in the Allianz Arena on the day of the men's match against Stuttgart.
