Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen took part in the ECA's general assembly in Athens in his capacity as vice-chairman of the European Club Association. Important decisions for the future of European football were taken in the Greek capital. The agreement between the ECA and the European football association UEFA has been extended until 2033. This means that both parties will continue to recognise each other as the sole club representative body at European level and as the European governing body.
Bayern win award
FC Bayern Women were honoured with the ECA Award 2024 for Football Development for their ‘EmpowerHer’ project. The prize is awarded for special commitment to the development, training and well-being of female players and coaching staff.
“I’m delighted that the European Club Association has now been able to hold its largest ever general assembly with 717 members, further increasing the ECA's importance in European football. In addition, the agreement with UEFA for a further three years until 2033 is an important building block to ensure that the interests of the clubs in European football are also secured in the coming years,” said Dreesen. “I’m of course particularly proud that FC Bayern's women’s team has received the ECA Award 2024. I would like to congratulate our director of women's football, Bianca Rech, on this. I would also like to congratulate Bochum on receiving the Karl-Heinz-Rummenigge Award for Club Management for the first time.” In their Future Advisory Board project in cooperation with Kindernothilfe, Bochum created a participatory body made up of young people between the ages of 14 and 25.
The ECA was founded in 2008 with 137 members and now comprises 717 European football clubs from 55 countries. As one of the founding members, the German record champions are heavily involved in the organisation and have always been represented on its board in recent years. Supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who was chairman of the ECA for many years, still serves as honorary chairman today.
