Three Bayern players have made the shortlists for the 2024 Golden Boy and Golden Girl awards in Aleksandar Pavlović, Mathys Tel and Ana María Guzmán. The trophies are given to the best U21 players in Europe by Italian magazine Tuttosport.
Pavlović is the only German player among the final list of 25 names. As well as him and Tel, Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens is the only other Bundesliga player to be shortlisted. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Turin on 16 December.
The selection process has been based on the Golden Boy Index as of last year. It’s an algorithm that uses performances, playing time and the strength of the club. The top 20 according to the index are joined by five selected wildcards for the final, where a jury of 50 journalists from across Europe will pick the winner.
Musiala second in 2023
Bayern had a player on the Golden Boy podium last year as Jamal Musiala finished second behind Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham. Musiala also came third in 2021 – the year Pedri won. Another Barcelona player claimed the title in 2022 in Gavi.
Guzmán makes top 10
FC Bayern Women are represented in the final shortlist by defender Guzmán. The Colombian, who has been in Munich since 2023, is already among the top 10 for the Golden Girl.
