FC Bayern donates €30,000 to DKMS

FC Bayern has donated €30,000 to the DKMS "look good feel better" patient programme. Deputy CEO Michael Diederich presented Katrin von Hallwyl, head of the programme, with a cheque for the amount. The money was collected in October using the Adyen Giving function of payment solution partner Adyen via the payment terminals at FC Bayern stores. As an official partner of FC Bayern, Adyen then doubled the amount. In addition, the special-edition jerseys worn and signed by the FC Bayern Women in their top match against VfL Wolfsburg were auctioned off for a good cause. On 17 November, a DKMS registration campaign will take place when FCB Women host Carl Zeiss Jena at the FC Bayern Campus. FC Bayern gets involved in Breast Cancer Awareness Month

"It was important to us to raise awareness of this social issue with visible campaigns as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October - and at the same time, of course, we are also delighted to be able to make a financial contribution through this donation together with our fans," said Michael Diederich. "Cancer screening should not be a taboo issue. We want to regularly raise awareness of this together with our partners such as adidas and Allianz."

Just like last year, the German record champions illuminated the Allianz Arena in the signal colour pink in October, and the special-edition jersey also ensured that the focus was directed towards the issue of cancer screening. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Deutsche Krebshilfe (German Cancer Aid Foundation), FC Bayern's sustainability department also created a special quiz with FCB partner Allianz as part of the DFL's Social Week. The questions about the German record champions' team are designed to ensure that, through answering them, participants are informed about the issue of cancer screening and long-term prevention.

The donation will help to enable women with cancer to take part in ‘look good feel better’ cosmetics seminars free of charge, in which patients learn how to cope better with the external changes that occur during treatment. The DKMS programme is designed to help patients help themselves in dealing with the external changes: In the free seminars, girls and women with cancer receive professional tips on facial care, make-up and headwear. The aim is to give cancer patients a better quality of life, self-esteem and hope in order to positively influence their healing process. To date, more than 180,000 patients in Germany have been able to participate in the programme.

DKMS is an international non-profit organisation whose aim is to give as many blood cancer patients worldwide as possible a second chance at life. It was founded in 1991 and since then has ensured that more and more patients receive a life-saving stem cell donation. More than 12.5 million potential donors are registered with DKMS, and to date the organisation has arranged more than 120,000 stem cell donations.
