Alexander Nübel: Saved penalty in home match against St. Pauli
Alexander Nübel and VfB Stuttgart ended the calendar year with a home game against FC St. Pauli. The Germany goalkeeper continued his record of playing every minute in the league this season and impressed in the clash against the Kiezkicker with a penalty save, among others. The promoted side were awarded the spot-kick after a foul by Anrie Chase on Oladapo Afolayan in the 51st minute, but Nübel beat away Johannes Eggestein's central effort. The 28-year-old made four saves in total, all nine of his throw-outs reached their target and he successfully completed 92 percent of his passes. Despite Nübel's good performance, head coach Sebastian Hoeneß's side slipped to a 1-0 defeat against the promoted team following four successive wins.
Armindo Sieb: Victory at Eintracht Frankfurt
It was a successful conclusion to 2024 for Armindo Sieb and 1. FSV Mainz 05. Bo Henriksen's men claimed a 3-1 win away to local rivals Eintracht Frankfurt, inflicting a first home defeat of the campaign on third-placed Frankfurt. Sieb started up front for the 05ers at Deutsche Bank Park and played 58 minutes, registering a pass completion rate of 83 percent and succeeding with 100 percent of his dribbles. Despite SGE having a far greater number of chances (34-9 attempts), Mainz made it five wins from their last six games and go into the new year in fifth place. For German U21 international Sieb, it was a 16th competitive outing of the season, in which he's scored two goals and set up two for Mainz.
Maurice Krattenmacher: Points shared in battle of promoted teams
Maurice Krattenmacher and SSV Ulm visited Preußen Münster as the Bundesliga 2 season reached the halfway point. In the battle of the two promoted teams, Thomas Wörle's side had to settle for a 0-0 draw despite having 15 attempts on goal compared to Münster's six. Krattenmacher made his 13th start of the campaign for Ulm before being replaced by Laurin Ulrich in the 83rd minute. The German youth international had one shot on goal, set up two shots and covered around nine kilometres at the Preußenstadion.
The point leaves Ulm in the relegation playoff place in 16th, but they're just two points off 15th place, currently occupied by Münster.
